I am not an expert on Black sexuality, but I am deeply passionate about it. My interest in sexuality research began in college and grew while working at the Women’s Center on campus. When I conducted my first research project on Black women's sexuality, the mainstream sex-positive feminist movement, and virginity, it cleared up a lot of misconceptions I had about Black women's sexuality. The insights I found in the research helped to free me from some beliefs that were hindering my personal and ongoing pursuit of pleasure and freedom. Thus, my passion grew and lead me to obtain my graduate degree in gender and sexuality studies which allowed me to further explore sexuality from various disciplines.
And now I'm here! At the end of the day, I'm a student at heart and I truly believe Black sexuality research that is presented in accessible and digestible ways can lead to better uncovering the complexity of Black sexuality and potentially lead us to alternative ways of engaging in a Black sexual culture that honors safety, care, radical consent, pleasure, self-determination, and freedom.
