“I’m an honest heaux and all my heauxs is honest.”

— “Vera Walker” (Della Resse, Harlem Nights)

My mission is to build a knowledge base for understanding and unpacking Black sexuality through accessible and digestible interdisciplinary multi-media research. Simply put, I aim to explore the broader context of Black cultural norms around sexuality to understand where they come from and why we may participate in them.

My overall vision is the reconstruction of Black sexuality. An affirming Black sexual culture that honors safety, care, radical consent, safety, self determination, pleasure, and freedom. This means that I want the growing knowledge base to be the stepping stone for implementing practical ways to a.) reject the cultural norms that hinders Black sexual freedom and b.) embody alternative Black sexual norms that reflect Black sexual freedom.

Ultimately, I’m not invested in talking down to or at people as if I’m the messiah of Black sexuality. We need community, so that requires getting (un)comfortable with communal-based conversations so that proposed practical applications better serve our needs. All in all, I want us to collectively survive and thrive so let’s work together to build the knowledge and the practices necessary for Black sexual liberation!

“All that you touch, You Change. All that you Change, Changes you. The only lasting truth Is Change.”

— Octavia E. Butler, Parable of the Sower
